The Latest Audio Justice Status Updates

Things are progressing well with the new Audio Justice album ‘House of Cards’. Writing and recording has continued apace and the songs are springing to life much quicker than originally anticipated, which is just as well as there are about 18 to record! Anyway…

'House of Cards' represents a real leap forward from the debut Audio Justice album 'Overdrawn At The Memory Bank' in terms of sound as well as songwriting. While the final tracklisting is yet to be decided, I can reveal details of the songs that have received more attention than others over the past few weeks;

  • JEANNIE!
A surprisingly upbeat pop/rock number about a woman murdered by a jealous ex-husband…
  • EMPIRE CITY
A hard hitting pop song set in a moral-free world where you act first and worry about your conscience later…
  • LOVE LOVE LOVE
A very direct lovesong, already proving to be popular with those who have heard the early demo ("Dan, it's your best song to date!" etc.)
  • STANDING AT THE EDGE OF THE WORLD
Part love song, part journey of self (re)discovery; just when you thought the flames had gone out the fire springs back into life…
  • PICTURE SHOW
Originally considered as the album's opening track this song is having a bit of an identity crisis; the name has changed a few times already, so expect it to again! A cautionary tale about the perils of burnout and/or wasting time…

As mentioned above, about 18 songs are being worked on out of a pool of about 30 that were written for this project. 12 songs are planned for the album and a further six are to be recorded and used as b-sides for singles.

The intention is to have completed work on the 'House of Cards' project towards the end of the summer with a formal release date coming shortly afterwards. Don't worry though, you won't have to wait that long to hear the new songs; there will be a three track single that precedes the album's release and I am hoping to have this available for you in the coming few weeks. A further two singles are planned after the album's launch and each single will feature exclusive non-album tracks as b-sides.

As always I am writing, recording, producing and performing the album myself, however, I have invited some of the many talented musicians and other creative types I’ve been fortunate enough to know to get involved. I’m looking forward to sharing details of these exciting collaborations with you shortly.

In other news, Sound on Sound, one of the world's biggest selling music recording magazines, recently featured the debut album 'Overdrawn At The Memory Bank' within its pages. A favourable review, the magazine comments on "a very slick and contemporary sound" and concludes that the album is "very impressive, especially given that [Dan] has played all the instruments himself". A full transcript will follow, but if you want to find out what the heck they're talking about you can download the album right now from the iTunes store by clicking here, or at any of the other popular online music stores by clicking the links at the bottom of this page. Go on, you know it makes sense!

That's it for now, but I'll be in touch again shortly with more album news. In the meantime, you can be the first to get Audio Justice updates by clicking here to add yourself to the newsletter or keep up to date by receiving news and blog items in your RSS reader as soon as they're posted by clicking here.

Thanks again for your continued support; I really can't wait to play the new songs to you!

Bye for now,

Dan

Who’d have thought domestic violence could be so cheerful!

lots of songs is it a double album keep up the good work REAL independnt music i think yoyu will go far

  3. Thanks for asking; 'House of Cards' isn't going to be a double album. The number of songs being recorded means that I can fill a 12 track album as well as having some exclusive tracks for b-sides etc. It also means if I change my mind I can swap some songs around as you never really know how well songs will sit together until you listen back to them side by side!
