Burn

February 16th, 2012

For the eleventh entry in the ‘30 Day Song Challenge’ I am instructed to list “a song from your favourite band”. That’s not as easy as it sounds. I listed my favourite song by my favourite band on Day 01 of this challenge of musical self discovery. Oh well, despite the arduous task of trying to come up with a convincing enough rationale that explained why I had picked one fabulous song over all their other fabulous songs, I present to you ‘Burn’ by The Cure.

Rylynn

February 8th, 2012

The tenth entry for the ‘30 Day Song Challenge’ is described as ‘a song that makes you fall asleep’. I can’t really think of any songs that send me to sleep; music is there to be listened to, not ignored. I can think of plenty of songs that have been playing while I’ve fallen asleep, but that’s something entirely different. So in the absence of any obvious candidates, here’s the video for a song that I am utterly transfixed by whenever I see it. Which is a bit like a trance. Which in turn is a bit like sleep. Isn’t it?

Resolution 9

January 4th, 2012

Well… here we are! 2012 is well underway and it’s already been long enough for some to break their New Year’s Resolutions! I’m usually pretty good at sticking to them, but last year’s promise of a finished album failed to deliver. Despite the frustration of interruptions suffered during 2011, my continued efforts to finish the ‘House of Cards’ album means that I’m so close to completion that I can confidently say that it will be released in the early part of this year! Is that a New Year’s Resolution? Well if it is then it it’s the one that I’ll be sticking to in 2012. Here’s a quick round up of what I was up to in 2011, and what you can expect from Audio Justice in 2012…

A Hard Day’s Night

May 1st, 2011

In 1964, The Beatles sang “It’s been a hard day’s packing, and I’ve been working like a cat”. Or something. No? Maybe this wasn’t the best choice for Day 08 of the Audio Justice 30 Day Song Challenge, ‘a song that you know all the words to’, but the direct lyrical approach of songwriters Lennon and McCartney managed to smash language barriers in a way that no other band had managed.

God Save The Queen

April 25th, 2011

Stood atop the roof of Buckingham Palace, time stands still as Queen guitarist Brian May slaughters his guitar with a rendition of ‘God Save The Queen’. Surely one of the greatest moments in rock and roll history since Jimi Hendrix played ‘Star Spangled Banner’ at Woodstock?! Day 07 in the Audio Justice 30 Day Song Challenge; ‘a song that reminds you of a certain event’.

Dance Hall Days

April 9th, 2011

“Take your baby by the hand” sing Wang Chung as you throw a petrol bomb at a group of Cuban gang members while in a cocaine fuelled rage. It must be day 06 in the Audio Justice 30 Day Song Challenge; ‘a song that reminds you of somewhere’.

Wishing Well

April 4th, 2011

In 1973 Free released their best selling single ‘Wishing Well’. Some considerable time later, my sister spent her childhood giving vocalist Paul Rodgers a run for his money by singing the song around our family home. Then Brian May and Roger Taylor got involved…

First Time

April 1st, 2011

Robin Beck asks “first time, first love, oh what feeling is this?” as she guzzles down the gallons of Tab Clear she received in exchange for her contribution to one of Coca-Cola’s better known advertising campaigns. “A song that makes you sad”; it must be Day 04 of the 30 Day Song Challenge.

Groove Is In The Heart

March 31st, 2011

The third day of the 30 Day Song Challenge features ‘a song that makes you happy’. ‘Groove Is In The Heart’ is one of THOSE records; the kind of song that makes you want to get up out of your chair and dance. The kind of song that makes you want to belt the chorus out at the top of your lungs. The kind of song you never tire of. The kind of song that makes you happy! Fact!

My Humps

March 30th, 2011

Day two of the Audio Justice 30 Day Song Challenge features my ‘least favourite song’. There are plenty to pick from to be honest, but this one seems to be jumping out somewhere near the top of the list. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the virtually unparalleled ‘My Humps’ by The Black Eyed Peas. “A breast cancer awareness exercise that nip-slipped under the radar?”

The Same Deep Water As You

March 29th, 2011

The first instalment of the Audio Justice 30 Day Song Challenge features my favourite song. Of all time. Ever. It’s named ‘The Same Deep Water As You’ and is featured on The Cure’s 1989 masterpiece ‘Disintegration’. Those unfamiliar with the music of this great band might know frontman Robert Smith best as the star of the 2011 UK Census.

30 Day Song Challenge

March 28th, 2011

I have been desperately trying to find the time to finish recording the new Audio Justice album ‘House of Cards’, which you’ll no doubt have noticed has been at the expense of updating the blog. All that is about to change, however, as I embark on a 30 day blogging marathon! In essence, I’ll be posting album updates while shamelessly stealing the idea of the 30 Day Song Challenge from Facebook. So in addition to groaning about how many talkbox solos I’ve recorded, I will share with you the songs and music videos that move me in one way or another! Every 24 hours! For 30 days! Or something. You get the idea.
